About NODC

The formation of the Nigeria National Oceanographic Data Center (NgNODC) was formally adopted by the National Oceanographic Committee on the in 1990 and was designated an IODE National Oceanographic Data Center in 1994.

Nigeria National Oceanographic Data Centre (NgNODC) is an active member of the IOC Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange Programme (IODE)

Mission and Vision

The National Oceanographic Data Center in Lagos, Nigeria is poised to collate, archive oceanographic data in Nigeria and facilitate the promotion and exchange of oceanographic data and information within and the entire global oceanographic community under the auspices of the International Oceanographic Data Exchange (IODE) programme of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO.

NgNODC is part of the network of International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE) data centers.  The aim of the Data Center is to collect, collate, achieve and disseminate oceanographic data and information within Nigeria and the global scientific community by providing various types of support to policy makers, resource managers, researchers, educational institutions, NGO's and private companies on matters of oceanographic data and information sources.
